Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a birth doula and a midwife?

A midwife is a licensed medical provider who monitors the health of you and your baby and provides clinical care during pregnancy, labor, and birth. A birth doula provides nonmedical emotional, physical, and informational support. I work alongside your medical team to help you feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout your birth experience.

Does a doula replace my partner?

Not at all. My role is to support both you and your partner. I help partners feel more confident and involved by offering guidance, comfort techniques, reassurance, and opportunities to rest when needed. I’m there to strengthen your support team, not replace anyone in it.

When should I hire a birth doula?

As early as possible. Birth availability is limited, and reserving support early gives us time to build a relationship and prepare together before labor begins. I’m always happy to consider later inquiries, but I cannot guarantee availability for last-minute requests.

Do you support inductions and planned cesareans?

Yes. I support families through inductions and planned cesarean births, offering preparation, reassurance, comfort measures, and continuous emotional support throughout the experience. Hospital policies may vary, so we will also discuss what support is permitted at your chosen birth location.

What areas do you serve?

Silent Night LLC serves families throughout the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and Northern Virginia. My regular service area includes Jefferson and Berkeley Counties in West Virginia, as well as Berryville, Winchester, the Northern Shenandoah Valley, Loudoun County, Fairfax County, and nearby communities.

Do you accept Carrot benefits?

Yes. Silent Night LLC is a Carrot-approved provider. I’m happy to provide the documentation needed for eligible reimbursement.

How far in advance should I reserve postpartum nights?

As early as possible. Overnight postpartum availability is limited, and many families reserve care during pregnancy to make sure support is in place before baby arrives. Last-minute requests are always welcome, but availability cannot be guaranteed.

Let’s talk about the support your family needs.

Birth and postpartum availability are limited, and every family begins with a complimentary consultation.
